Systematic study of the Gongchik:
Seminar with Jan-Ulrich Sobisch

It is possible to participate in individual meetings.

Seminar fee on donation basis for DGI.

Rigdzin Chökyi Dragpa's detailed commentary "Light of the Sun”

All participants will receive a German translation of the vajra statements discussed in the first chapter of Rigdzin Chökyi Dragpa's commentary 'Light of the Sun'. We first deal with the nature of the teaching, sutra baskets, and tantra classes, and the so-called 'three turns of the wheel of the teaching'.

The course is designed as a systematic seminar. In the coming years we want to work through all chapters of the Gongchik step by step, looking at the detailed and short commentary by Rigdzin Chökyi Dragpa. The detailed commentary is contained in a book ("The Buddha's Single Intention"), which will be published in English by Wisdom Publications on April 8, 2020 (special conditions for collective orders). Participants will receive a German translation of the commentary successively during the course. The short commentary is available in a German translation by Susanne Schmidt at the Centre.

As His Holiness says in the preface to the new book: “[The Gongchik] is a window into the early, formative period of the Kagyu tradition. ... The vajra statements reflect Kyobpa Jikten Sumgön's understanding that all Buddha's teachings ... have a single, unified, holistic intention of revealing the fundamental nature of all phenomena to us deluded sentient beings, so that we can be freed from suffering and attain the perfect Buddha state. ... It is my hope that [the students of this text] will take to heart these vajra statements and the related commentaries for the task of exhausting all nonvirtue and perfecting all virtue, thus leading to the perfect buddha state.”

Jan-Ulrich Sobisch, formerly Professor of Tibetology at the University of Copenhagen, now researcher at CERES Ruhr University Bochum, is best known for his work on Tibetan vow theories, Tibetan Tantric traditions and his research on the Gongchik teachings of the Drikung Kagyu tradition.
