Buddha Amitabha (tib. Öpame) is the Buddha of infinite light. The meditation on Buddha Amitabha helps to develop wisdom and clarity. It is an important preparation for the Phowa practice (the transference of the consciousness at the moment of death) which can enable us to reach the Pure Land of Buddha Amitabha, Sukhavati (tib. Dewachen).






The Great Drikung Phowa - Drikung Phowa Chenmo
The Phowa practice serves the transmission of consciousness at the time of death and is one of the easiest and most direct methods to attain enlightenment. It is one of Naropa's Six Yogas and is the best preparation for the only thing in life that is certain - for death. Depending on the ability of the practitioner, the enlightenment can be attained at the time of death or the consciousness can be transferred to Sukhavati, the Pure Land of Buddha Amitabha, to continue the spiritual process there.
